Autumn to Winter Changes

These past two weeks, we’ve taken a sharp left turn into a colder and crisper England. While the sun comes in and out, it’s clear that autumn has officially arrived! The days when the sun does peak through golden-brown leaves give us brisk mornings, perfect for a stroll through the town centre.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, why not hike through Teggs Nose Country Park? Just outside the town, it’s an ideal spot for family outings and dog walks, culminating in a cosy stop at Flour Water Salt in Macclesfield to warm up!

The change in seasons can bring about a range of feelings, both uplifting and sombre. To combat those darker evenings, I’ve found that fully embracing what makes these three months special is the way to go. October invites us to dive into the spooky charm of Halloween, and I love starting with pumpkin-inspired decorations and treats. Pumpkin soup, in particular, is a favourite of mine—it’s the perfect soul-warming dish for chilly nights. You might also consider changing your bedding to autumnal hues or lighting a scented candle that evokes the warmth of cinnamon or vanilla.

Another delightful autumn activity is wreath-making! Many local events pop up on Facebook and Eventbrite, making it easy to connect with others while enjoying some arts and crafts fun. You can find these events online or in the eventbrite app!

This month is also a fantastic time to settle in for a movie marathon that gets you excited for the weeks ahead. One of my all-time favourites is the Harry Potter series. It beautifully weaves themes of Halloween with witches, wizards, and enchanting villains, while also capturing the magic of winter and Christmas at Hogwarts.

If you need some inspiration for your movie lineup, here are a few beloved picks:

  • The Nightmare Before Christmas (a perfect blend of Halloween and Christmas!)
  • Hocus Pocus (Bette Midler at her finest)
  • The Addams Family (original or Addams Family Values)
  • Corpse Bride (another Tim Burton gem)
  • IT (both chapters are wonderfully spine-chilling)
  • Ghostbusters (the original—an absolute classic)
  • Carrie (a bold and controversial choice)

So, get cosy this autumn! Embrace new experiences and explore new places, all while savouring your favourite breads and pastries from Flour Water Salt.
